Most people don't know what a percentage is

Most people do not understand percentages well and can not accurately read a graph. If you want to convey some facts and figures, first make sure you understand the numeracy skills of your audience. It is never a bad idea to simplify the numbers, as long as they give an accurate representation of the facts.


One-in-three adults in England and Northern Ireland cannot work out the correct change from a shopping trip, according to research from Adit Bhutoria, John Jerrim and Anna Vignoles, researchers at the Institute of Education at UCL and the University of Cambridge.
